How To Stay Unaffected By Other People’s Behavior

A rose doesn’t stop emanating it’s scent if someone doesn’t appreciate it...your original stage of happiness shouldn’t depend on how others react to you....

This is a tough one. We learn at such a young age to be aware of how people perceive and react to us. We learn basic socialization in this way. And especially in a world of ‘likes’ and ‘swipes’ the line between being socially aware and socially neurotic becomes blurred. We lose ourselves in other people’s opinions of us.

But here’s the truth. Other people’s opinions of you need not affect you AT ALL. Their opinions, their moods, their judgements have nothing to do with you and everything to do with them, their past, their judgments, their expectations, their likes, and their dislikes. I hope that’s a huge weight off your shoulders.

So the next time you get in your own head at a cocktail party or have a less-than-ideal interaction with a stranger in passing, here are 3 ways to stay unaffected by other people’s behavior:

  1. Step into new shoes! Try to see the interaction from another’s perspective.

  2. Smile and say nothing if you can see someone is deliberately trying to get a reaction from you.

  3. Stay strong in your beliefs. Your inner compass will guide you-trust it.

Need a roadmap to find your inner compass again? Let’s help you float above others' negativity.
